This noodle is traditionally cooked using water from a specific region in Japan (Oita Prefecture) where the flavor profile of the water has helped to create a distinctive flavor of udon noodles, which is why they’re often served with a light and flavorful soup.

One of my favorite places to get delicious, authentic udon noodles is Tokyo Japan, where I always visit my favorite ramen spot, Kintaro, which serves my favorite ramen noodle soup called Udon Ramen (which is served with egg).

Although I have eaten udon noodles in the U.S. before, and there are some good options available, the best udon noodles I’ve had have been in Japan.

What To Serve With Udon Noodles

Pork sausage, mushrooms, and asparagus are all fantastic side dishes for udon noodles, and a light dressing of sesame oil, soy sauce, and rice vinegar adds a delicious, umami-rich note to the dish.

Another one of my favorite things to serve with udon noodles is a simple side salad.

A classic green salad can work great here, and a few added herbs and a dollop of creamy dressing really make all the difference.

 A little fresh basil is a good addition too, if you can find it.

How To Store Udon Noodles To Extend Its Shelf Life

Store udon noodles in their original packaging in a cool, dark place. To make it easier to find them in the pantry, label the package with the name of your favorite udon noodle brand or soup base and the type of noodles.

If you’re using dried udon noodles, store them in the refrigerator to prevent them from turning soft.

Once opened, store the noodles in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Place the open container back into the refrigerator immediately after use.

Some benefits of proper food storage include eating healthier, cutting food costs, and helping the environment by avoiding waste.
