9 Sauces that Go Well with Chicken Burgers
Chicken burgers are a great way to cut calories without losing flavor.
Chicken is a neutral meat, which means you can experiment with all sorts of different flavors and sauces.
Whether you’re in the mood for something spicy or sweet, there’s likely a perfect sauce out there for your chicken burger
Here are 9 of my favorites!
What Sauce Goes with Chicken Burger?
The best sauce for chicken burgers is a homemade ranch dressing that’s been made with fresh herbs and spices, and thickened with bread crumbs. The texture of the bread crumbs will give it a bit of a crunch without being too heavy.

Ketchup
While ketchup is a condiment that doesn’t have much nutritional value, it does pack a punch of flavor.
It’s also incredibly versatile and can be added to many different types of dishes for an extra kick.
Ketchup is best when paired with other flavors—like BBQ sauce, mayonnaise or mustard—to give your food a more complex taste profile.
If you’re looking for something to create the perfect burger, try mixing ketchup with some ranch dressing and grated Parmesan cheese: it’ll be unlike anything you’ve ever had before!
Pickle Relish
For my pickle relish, I like to use the small pickles you can find next to the ketchup at your local grocer.
They’re usually less than a dollar per jar and add a nice crunch to any burger.
But if you want to make this sauce from scratch, here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 tablespoon of mustard (Dijon or stone-ground)
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
- Grated carrots (about 1/2 a large carrot)
Honey Mustard
Honey mustard is one of my favorite sauces to use on chicken burgers.
It has a sweet, tangy taste that pairs well with the meat and vegetables in this burger.
I like to add honey mustard sauce on top of the patty while it’s cooking in the pan, but feel free to add it after you remove your chicken burgers from the grill if you’d rather do so.
If you want to make these into an entire meal, try serving them with some potato wedges and green beans!
Barbecue Sauce
We all know the classic burger is patty, cheese, lettuce and tomato.
But you can do more with those ingredients.
Barbecue Sauce (or BBQ for short) is a good example of this.
The tangy sauce goes well with chicken burgers and can be used in several ways:
- Brush on top of meat patties during grilling.
- Add to barbeque sauce and brush over cooked meat patties just before serving for extra flavor.
- Pour over the cooked burger just before serving for extra zing!
Using BBQ sauce in your chicken burger recipe is an opportunity to add more flavor without using another ingredient or taking away from the taste of your favorite spices and seasonings that you’ve added so far—and it only takes seconds!
Blue Cheese Dressing
Blue Cheese Dressing is one of my favorite sauces.
It’s creamy and tangy, which makes it a great pairing for chicken burgers.
I like to make this dressing with Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, sour cream and blue cheese crumbles.
Other ingredients that would go well in this sauce include herbs like parsley or basil (or whatever you have on hand), diced onions and lemon juice or vinegar if you want an extra tang.
For a complete meal, serve your chicken burgers on whole-grain buns with lettuce leaves and tomato slices topped with Blue Cheese Dressing.
You can also use tortilla wraps for a gluten-free option if needed!
Thousand Island Sauce
Thousand Island Sauce is a great sauce for burgers.
You can make it from scratch, or buy it at the store.
If you’re looking for a healthier option, I recommend using mayo instead of sour cream to make Thousand Island Sauce.
Add some diced tomatoes and basil leaves to your burger with this sauce and enjoy!
Chipotle Sauce
If you love Mexican food, then you’ll really enjoy this sauce. It’s got hints of chipotle and cumin, which are very spicy.
This sauce goes well with chicken burgers because the spicy-sweet combination really complements the meat.
I like using this as a topping for my burger, but you can also use it as a marinade or dip for your chicken patty.
You can make this more of an entrée by adding some rice, chicken breast and avocado to your burger.
The Chipotle Sauce will give it just enough kick to make it perfect!
Sriracha Mayonnaise
If you’d like to try this sauce, I’d recommend making it with mayonnaise.
It’s also great with Greek yogurt or sour cream, but for this particular recipe I prefer mayo.
If you want to make a meal out of the burger, try adding some leafy greens and sliced tomatoes to your plate along with a side of roasted potatoes or sweet potato fries.
This can help make your burger feel more balanced and complete—and give you more nutrients than just eating the chicken patty on its own (which is still super delicious).
You could even throw in some avocado if you’re feeling fancy!
Sweet & Sour Sauce
For this sauce, you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup of ketchup
- 3 tablespoons of orange juice
- 2 teaspoons of white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (it’s optional)
To make the sauce, just mix everything together in a bowl.
You can also simmer it on low heat for five minutes if you want to let the flavors come together.
When you’re ready to eat, simply top your chicken burger with some sweet and sour sauce.
This recipe is so simple that it doesn’t require much else—but if you want to add something else to your meal, try some lettuce or tomatoes!
Conclusion
Next time you’re looking for a way to spice up your chicken burger, try out one of these sauce options.
They’ll all make your burger taste better while giving it an exciting new flavor profile, and they’re easy enough to make that you can experiment with different ones until you find the perfect match.
