10 Optavia Fueling Hacks
I know you’re busy, so I’ve created an easy-to-digest list of some of my favorite Optavia fueling hacks:
1. Dark Chocolate
If you’re craving sweets, opt for one or two bites of dark chocolate instead of eating an entire candy bar.
It may not sound like much, but those little bites are packed with antioxidants that help protect your body from free radicals—and they’ll taste just as good!
2. Nuts and Seeds
If you don’t have time to sit down and eat breakfast every morning, try eating some nuts and seeds instead!
They’ll give you an energy boost without making your stomach growl when you’re getting ready for work or school later in the day (because there’s nothing worse than being hungry before lunchtime).
3. Don’t Skip Breakfast
It’s the most important meal of the day, and Optavia is all about making sure you get enough fuel to power through your day.
A healthy breakfast will keep you from getting hangry and help you avoid impulse snacking throughout the day.
4. A lunch smoothie
Get a healthy boost at lunchtime with a green smoothie!
You’ll get all the vitamins of greens without having to eat them (or chew them).
Plus, they taste great! Just add a little honey or maple syrup if yours is too bitter.
5. Water + Apple Cider Vinegar + Lemon Juice
This combo is one of my favorites! It’s super refreshing, plus it’s packed with vitamins from the fruit and minerals from the water.
Just mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/2 cup water, add a teaspoon of lemon juice (and maybe some mint for extra flavor), then drink it down!
6. Eat a small snack before dinner
It’s not always easy to keep track of how much food you’ve eaten throughout the day, especially if you’re tracking your calories with an app like MyFitnessPal.
If this sounds like something that could benefit from a little help, try eating a small snack before dinner to keep yourself from overeating later in the evening.
This will also make sure that you’re not tempted by any unhealthy snacks while lying in bed watching Netflix instead of sleeping!
7. Drink Plenty of Water Throughout the Day
Drinking water throughout the day helps keep your body hydrated and your metabolism going strong—and it can help with digestion as well! It’s also a great way to avoid drinking sugary drinks that will negatively impact your weight loss efforts.
8. Mix It up With a Shake or Smoothie
There are tons of great protein shakes out there that taste like dessert—you can use them as snacks or even meals if you want something lighter than a full meal.
Just be sure to check the label for ingredients that could make it unhealthy (like artificial sweeteners), and try to avoid those products if possible!
And if you like smoothies, try putting them in a mason jar instead of buying them premade—it’s cheaper, more fun to make yourself, and tastes better too!
9. Try Cooking Your Meals in Bulk
Cooking multiple meals at once is a great way to save time—and money!
Cooking in bulk allows you to make enough food for several days’ worth of lunches or dinners at once, so that when you need a quick meal on busy weeknights, all you have to do is heat up something from last night’s batch of brownies or chicken enchilada casserole.
10. Don’t Forget About Fruit!
Fruit is another great way to get your daily dose of vitamins and minerals into your diet without having to do much work at all.
Optavia has lots of recipes that use fruit as an ingredient or even as part-of-the-recipe, so try them out next time you’re feeling lazy in the kitchen!
6 Optavia Bar Substitutes
If you’re wondering how to make the Optavia diet work for you, there are a few alternatives you can try.
While the Optavia bar is a great way to get in some protein and fiber in one convenient snack, it’s not the only option out there.
Here are 6 substitutes for an Optavia bar:
Yogurt and Fruit
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, yogurt and fruit can be a great way to get your fix without breaking your diet.
Try adding some granola or nuts for crunch if you want something extra!
If you have time in the morning before work, making yourself a smoothie is a great way to get some protein and fiber on board without having to eat anything solid.
Make sure to include bananas or other fruits that are high in carbs, as well as yogurt or milk (if dairy isn’t an issue).
When all else fails and hunger hits hard at 10 am, try making yourself a protein shake!
There are plenty of recipes out there that have all of the nutrients needed for this diet plan plus more than enough flavor options so that you won’t even miss those darn bars!
5-Ingredient Protein Bars (no-Bake!)
These no-bake protein bars are quick and easy to make, and they’re packed with all the goodness of peanut butter and oats.
You’ll never need to buy another protein bar again!
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup chunky peanut butter
- 1/2 cup real maple syrup or honey, plus more to taste
- 1 cup vanilla, chocolate, or plain whey protein powder
- In a medium heavy pot over medium heat, combine the milk and peanut butter and cook until smooth and slightly bubbling about 2 minutes.
- Remove from the heat.
- Add in the maple syrup (or honey) and protein powder and stir until well combined.
- Stir in the oats until evenly coated with the peanut butter mixture.
- Pour into an 8×8 baking dish lined with parchment paper or foil sprayed with cooking spray and press firmly into the pan with a spatula until completely flat and even throughout.
- Top with any add-ins if desired before refrigerating for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight) before cutting into bars!
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months!
5-Ingredient Protein Bars (Peanut Butter Chocolate!)
These protein bars will have you feeling satisfied without feeling bloated or weighed down.
- 1 ¼ cups creamy salted peanut butter (or sub almond, cashew, or sunflower)
- 5 Medjool dates, pitted (add more for sweeter bars)
- 2/3 cup hemp seeds
- 1/3 cup chia seeds (or sub other seeds, such as sesame or flax)
- 1/3-1/2 cup protein powder (vanilla, flavored, or chocolate — or other flavor of choice)
- In a food processor pulse together all ingredients until they form a sticky dough.
- If too dry add 1 tbsp more water and repeat if too wet add 1 tbsp more oats.
- Scoop out by the tablespoonful onto a lined baking sheet.
- Press down with your hand to flatten each ball and place in the freezer for 15 minutes to harden up slightly before enjoying!
These protein bars will have you feeling like a superhero, without any of the weird food allergies.
You’ll be amazed by how easy it is to make these bars.
And after you taste them, we think you’ll be amazed by how good they taste!
They’re gluten-free and no-bake, so you can whip up a batch in no time at all.
And since they’re packed with protein and fiber, they’ll keep your tummy full for hours on end.
8 Optavia Cereal Substitutes
You know what’s better than cereal?
- But what if you can’t get your hands on this delicious, healthy brand of breakfast foods?
- Or what if you simply don’t like the taste or price?
I’ve got 8 great substitutes that will help you keep eating healthy even when you don’t have Optavia cereal on hand.
Oatmeal is a great breakfast cereal substitute. It’s healthy, it’s filling, and it’s easy to make.
You can get creative with toppings like nuts and dried fruit or brown sugar and cinnamon.
Quinoa is an ancient grain that has lots of protein and fiber.
It’s also gluten-free, which makes it good for people with celiac disease or other allergies to wheat products.
You can cook quinoa in the morning and then use it as a base for breakfast throughout the day—it goes well with fruit, yogurt (if you don’t have any allergies), or even peanut butter!
3. Homemade Granola
Try using homemade granola in place of your favorite Optavia cereal.
You can make it yourself with a few simple ingredients—or just buy some from the store! Just be sure that it doesn’t contain any added sugar or unhealthy ingredients like high-fructose corn syrup.
4. Chia Pudding
Chia pudding is a great replacement for cereal, as it contains less sugar and more protein than most types of cereals.
It’s also easy to make, so you can enjoy it in the morning or as a snack later on in the day!
5. Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is packed with protein, which will help keep you full for longer than other cereals (even if they’re non-fat).
It also has probiotics that can help improve your digestion and boost your immune system.
You can mix berries into the yogurt for added sweetness, or just eat it plain if that’s what you prefer!
6. Protein Powder
Protein powder is one of the most versatile food items out there—you can drink it alone or make delicious smoothies with it!
It’s also great for baking because it replaces flour so well in recipes like pancakes or muffins.
Muesli originated in Switzerland and is traditionally made by soaking oats overnight with dried fruit and nuts (like almonds or walnuts).
There are many different variations on this recipe available online—you can make it yourself or buy pre-made muesli from stores like Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe’s!
Cauliflower is another versatile food that can be used in place of traditional cereal in many different ways.
For example, you could roast cauliflower florets with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder before topping them with cheese sauce for a more savory meal reminiscent of cheesy broccoli rice casserole from childhoods past!
5 Optavia Pasta Substitutes
Optavia pasta substitutes are a great way to get your fill of carbs and nutrients without compromising on your diet.
Optavia pasta is a low-carbohydrate, high-protein option that will keep you feeling full and energized all day long.
Here’s a look at 5 of my favorite Optavia pasta substitutes:
1. Shirataki Noodles
Shirataki noodles are made from the konjac yam, which is a starch-free root vegetable.
They’re also very low in calories and carbs, making them a perfect alternative to traditional pasta.
Shirataki noodles are usually already cooked when you buy them, so you can simply drain and rinse them before using.
If you’re not familiar with shirataki noodles, they’re thin white strands that resemble angel hair pasta.
If you’ve seen them before, you might’ve noticed that they come packaged in liquid (the liquid is actually made from seaweed).
That’s what makes them so low in calories—the liquid replaces most of the fat in traditional pasta sauces and helps keep them nice and moist.
Some people find shirataki noodles difficult to prepare because they don’t have the same toothsome texture as regular pasta.
But once they’re cooked correctly (and mixed with an acidic ingredient such as lemon juice), they’ll have a similar feel to regular pasta.
You can make shirataki noodles in any number of ways: stir-fried with veggies or meat; served cold as part of a salad; or even used as a substitute for regular spaghetti!
2. Zucchini Noodles
If you’re craving some spaghetti, try using zucchini noodles instead.
Zucchini noodles can be boiled or steamed for about five minutes before serving.
To keep them from getting soggy, try tossing them with a little bit of olive oil before serving.
3. Cauliflower Rice
Cauliflower is an amazing low-calorie, high-fiber vegetable that can be used to replace pasta in many dishes.
- You can make “rice” by chopping a head of cauliflower into small pieces, adding salt and mixing it together.
- Then you can bake it in the oven at 375 degrees for 10 minutes, stirring every 3 minutes.
- When it’s done, let it cool and use it as a substitute for regular rice or pasta in your favorite recipes!
4. Spaghetti Squash
You can also use spaghetti squash as an alternative to regular pasta.
Spaghetti squash is low-carb and gluten free, and it has a similar texture as pasta when cooked.
- To prepare spaghetti squash, cut it in half lengthwise and place it in a baking dish filled with water.
- Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until soft (about an hour).
- Remove from oven and let cool slightly before scraping out seeds with a spoon.
- Then scoop out flesh with a fork into long strands resembling spaghetti noodles.
5. Bean Pasta
Bean pasta is a great substitute for optavia pasta.
It’s made from beans, which is a good source of fiber and protein.
Bean pasta is also low in calories and carbs, so it’s perfect for those watching their weight or who have diabetes or high blood pressure.
Bean pasta is easy to cook, just follow the package directions. You can also add some veggies like spinach and tomatoes to make it more filling
3 Optavia Shake Substitutes
If you’re not a fan of the vanilla flavor, there are some other great shake substitutes that will help you stay on track and reach your health goals.
Even with all the praise that has been heaped upon the Optavia shake, you might be wondering how to make your own substitute at home.
Luckily, it’s super easy!
Here are my favorite Optavia shake substitutes:
Combine 1 cup of milk or almond milk, 1/2 cup of ice, 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 cup peanut butter, 1/2 banana and 3 tablespoons of honey in a blender.
Blend until smooth.
This is probably my favorite shake substitute! It’s so simple to make, but it’s delicious and filling.
All you need is 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries and 1/2 cup of frozen banana slices.
Put these in a blender with about 1/4 cup of almond milk (or any type of milk) and blend until smooth!
In a shaker cup combine 1 scoop vanilla protein powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 6 ounces warm water.
Shake until well blended.
14 Food Substitutes for Optavia Bars
If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to Optavia bars as part of your diet, you’re in luck.
There are a lot of delicious, nutritious options out there that will make it easy to stick to your plan and never get bored!
Check out these 14 substitutes for Optavia bars:
1. Cottage Cheese
With only 4 grams of fat and 9 grams of carbs, cottage cheese is a great substitute for any Optavia Fueling.
It’s also high in protein (14 grams), so it will keep you full longer than some other options.
Cottage cheese is also a great choice if you’re trying to lose weight, because it’s low in calories but contains the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy while on a diet.
Tuna is a great fish—high in protein, low in fat, and we all love it.
Aside from the regular tuna salad you get at restaurants, but that’s pretty boring.
Instead, make your own tuna salad with a few simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand.
Start by placing several cans of tuna in the fridge for a day or two to allow the fish to absorb the flavors of whatever spices you add.
After a few days, you’ll have your tuna ready to go!
Almonds, cashews, peanuts, pistachios—so many nuts to choose from!
And the good news is that they’re all great options when you’re looking for something low-fat and high-protein to make your meal more filling.
Just keep in mind that some nuts have more fat than others, so don’t go overboard on the macadamias or Brazil nuts if you’re trying to cut back on your calorie intake.
4. Greek Yogurt
This one might not be as obvious, but Greek yogurt is another great option for Optavia Fuelings!
It’s high in protein and low in fat/sugar—plus there are tons of different kinds available so you can find one that works best with your lifestyle.
Greek yogurt is also very versatile: you can eat it plain with some fruit on top or add some granola for extra flavor.
You could even use it as an ingredient in recipes like dips or dressings!
Just make sure that if you go this route then only use non-fat varieties because they’re healthier (and cheaper!).
A great source of protein for those who don’t eat meat or dairy products.
Tofu has an incredibly mild flavor that makes it perfect for absorbing any sauce or seasoning you choose!
6. Chicken breast
It’s a perfect alternative to Optavia Fuelings because it’s high in protein but low in carbs.
It’s also one of the most versatile options on this list, so if you’re looking for something that can be used in a variety of ways, chicken breast will be an excellent choice for you.
7. Egg whites
One of the best foods to substitute for Optavia Fuelings is egg whites.
Not only do they have zero carbs, but they’re a complete source of protein—meaning that they contain all 9 essential amino acids that your body needs to function.
This makes them an excellent option for dieters looking to get more protein in their diet without taking on lots of carbs and fat.
8. Skim milk
We know what you’re thinking: “skim milk? Really?”
But here’s the thing: it’s pretty much perfect for Optavia Fuelings, since it’s full of protein, low in sugar, and has a nice creamy texture that is sure to fill you up.
There are several ways you can enjoy skim milk: drink it plain, add it to your coffee or tea, or even try making your own smoothies with it!
This is such an easy way to get more protein in your diet without having to worry about all those extra calories.
Whether scrambled, fried, poached, or hard-boiled, eggs are a perfect substitute for Optavia Fuelings because they’re low in calories and fat while being high in protein.
They also taste great with pretty much any other food you can think of—especially bacon.
10. Lean ground beef or turkey
Just like with chicken, turkey, and fish, these protein-packed meats are perfect for satisfying your hunger without packing on pounds of fat.
11. Hummus and cucumber slices
Hummus is a wonderfully creamy dip made from chickpeas that’s an excellent source of protein and fiber—perfect for getting your body back on track after a bout of overeating.
It can also be used as a spread for sandwiches, wraps, or tortilla chips.
If you’re looking for a snack option with even more crunch, opt for hummus with cucumber slices instead of bread or tortilla chips.
Cucumbers have a high water content, so they’ll help keep you hydrated while helping to fill your stomach.
To make this snack, just spread a serving (about 2 tablespoons) of hummus on a slice of cucumber.
You can use veggie dips like ranch or chipotle ranch instead, but they have a lot more calories than hummus does.
Make sure to eat this snack immediately after preparing to prevent the cucumber from getting soggy!
Fruit is a yummy, natural treat that can be a great replacement for your Optavia Fueling.
Instead of eating a small shake or a bland cracker, why not sink your teeth into a delicious, juicy peach?
Fruit is also full of vitamins and nutrients that will provide energy and keep your body healthy. And did I mention it tastes great?
Berries are a great substitute for Optavia Fuelings because they contain important vitamins and nutrients but don’t contain much sugar or fat.
With only 1 gram of fat per cup, berries are a perfect snack that can be eaten plain or added to other recipes!
Plus, with 8 grams of protein per cup, these sweet treats will keep you feeling full.
14. Whey protein shakes
Whey protein shakes are a great alternative to Optavia Fuelings because they’re low in sugar, fat, and calories and high in protein, which is what Optavia Fuelings are known for.
They also come with other added health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
For some, they may be easier on the stomach since they don’t tend to cause gas or bloating like other sources of protein can.
They can even help with weight loss by increasing muscle mass without adding any extra pounds!
If you’re looking for an easy-to-make alternative, then look no further than a whey protein shake (or two)!
Are Optavia Bars Healthy?
Not only are Optavia Bars healthy, they offer a range of benefits that can help you reach your weight-loss goals.
The bars are full of high-quality ingredients that help reduce cravings, improve energy levels, burn fat, and manage blood sugars.
If you’re worried about getting hungry between meals, these bars have you covered: they keep you full longer, so you don’t need to worry about reaching for snacks between meals.
They’re also a tasty meal replacement for when you just can’t find the time to make something healthy happen in the kitchen.
With all of the benefits these bars provide, it’s easy to see why they’re such a popular choice for those looking to lose weight and reach their fitness goals.
They’ll help keep your body healthy while helping you manage your weight—what more could you want?
How Do You Choose an Optavia Fueling Substitute?
Finding the right Optavia fueling substitute can be challenging.
These substitutes are designed to replace the bars, drinks, and shakes that are a part of your plan, and they have to work with your body to do that.
So here are some things you should consider when looking for an Optavia fueling substitute:
You’re probably thinking “duh,” but let’s break it down: what kind of flavors do you like?
Are you a vanilla person or do you like things to be more complex?
If you crave chocolate, stick with something that has that strong cocoa flavor.
If you like things on the sweeter side, go for something with a caramel or vanilla flavor. If you like things a little more tart, try a bar that’s got citrus in it.
Texture is another important thing to consider when choosing a bar.
If you’re opting for an alternative because one of the Optavia fuels is too hard for your teeth or digestion to handle, for example, you may want to look for something that’s softer than what you’re currently consuming.
Or if you want something chewier, find a protein bar with some crunchy bits in it!
Flavor is related to taste, but not exactly the same thing.
When we talk about flavor in terms of Optavia fuels, we’re talking about the intensity of the flavors—how strong they are and how much they stand out against other flavors.
Are there flavors that you like more than others?
Don’t be afraid to give your favorites a try—fueling substitutes are there to make sure that you enjoy the experience of eating them.
Some people prefer something with chocolate or nuts, while others like something fruity.
There are even fueling substitutes for people who enjoy savory snacks.
This can be especially helpful if you’re trying to stay away from sweets.
What kind of lifestyle do you lead, and how does that impact what would work best for you on your weight loss journey?
Are you someone who wants to eat as little as possible at one time, or would it be better for your schedule and disposition if you had a couple of opportunities throughout the day to fuel up with your snacks?
These are important questions to consider.
It’s important to think about your budget.
Optavia fueling bars are expensive, and not everyone has the means to spend that much on a single meal.
If you can’t afford the bars, you’re going to want to find something that’s more affordable.
For example, a packet of ramen noodles is less than $1—and if you add some veggies, it’s nutritionally sound!
Another thing to consider when choosing an Optavia fueling substitute is convenience.
Whether you’re looking for a substitute for your Lean & Green meal, a snack, or a Fueling, you want to make sure that what you choose is convenient for you.
We’ve all been in the situation where we’ve been stuck at the airport or on a long car ride with no lean and green fueling option in sight—and that’s where our best-selling product comes in.
Also, make sure the substitute is actually comparable to an Optavia bar on nutritional info and ingredients.
The main point of an Optavia fueling substitution is to make sure your body is getting the nutrients and proteins it needs, so double-check that the food you’re choosing can give you what you need from a fueling.
When you’re looking for a substitute for an Optavia bar, you want to find one with high-quality ingredients.
That means that the bar should be made from whole foods and not from chemical additives or artificial sweeteners.
You can look at the ingredient list on the back of any bar or box to see whether it’s made from real food or not.
You want to look for a low-sodium option.
Eating too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure, which is bad for your heart.
If you’re using a substitute instead of your regular fueling option, you’re probably not looking to sabotage your health goals.
So make sure that whatever product you choose has low or no sodium.
Low Sugar Content
Another thing to consider is whether the substitute has low sugar content.
The best way to do this is by reading the label and checking how many grams of sugar are in each serving size.
If it has too much sugar, it’s probably not a good option!
Another important thing to consider is protein content.
Protein is essential for your body because it helps build and repair muscle tissue as well as providing energy throughout the day, so if you’re looking to lose weight then this will definitely be something worth looking into!
Another thing to consider when choosing an Optavia fueling substitute is how much fiber it has.
This is important because your body needs fiber to maintain healthy digestion, and carbohydrates are stored as fat if they’re not used for fuel.
So make sure that whatever fueling substitute you choose has about the same amount of fiber as what you’re replacing.
Also, are there any limitations on where you can keep it?
You don’t want your bar to melt in your pocket or in your car, so avoid anything chocolate or otherwise temperature-sensitive.
Also, if your bar needs refrigeration, avoid anything with a short shelf life.
Can It Hold up Over Time?
Can it hold up over time? All bars may start out soft and chewy (or crunchy), but some bars dry out over time and become hard and brittle.
This isn’t ideal when the whole point is ease of consumption.
If this happens to your chosen fueling substitute, it could crack a tooth or break while in transit—neither of which is good for convenience.
Just because it’s healthy doesn’t mean it’s okay if it’s not available!
If you’re out of the house and need a snack, do you have time to stop at a special grocery store?
What if you’re on vacation in a foreign country?
Make sure whatever Optavia fueling substitute you choose is available everywhere.
Effect on Hunger Levels
When looking for an Optavia fueling substitute, consider what effect it will have on your hunger levels.
You probably don’t want something that’s going to give you a sugar crash and have you hungry again in half an hour—you’ll be right back where you started!
Instead look for proteins and fats that will keep you fuller longer and keep away cravings.
Choose Something That’s Similar in Size
When you’re looking for a substitute for an Optavia fueling like a bar, it’s important to make sure the substitute is similar in size.
If you choose something that’s too big, it could mess up your macros and sugar intake, and if it’s too small… well then you’re probably still hungry!
You’ll also want to think about the calorie count of your snack.
If you want to substitute one Optavia fueling snack for another, make sure that the calories are pretty close together.
For example, use something like a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich instead of a chocolate bar.
If you’re not sure how many calories are in your snack, check out the nutrition label on the packaging—that will help guide you.
When choosing a fueling substitute, it’s important to consider the sugar content.
The Optavia Fueling system is designed to help you shed weight by slowing down your metabolism and having more nutritious food choices.
If your fueling substitute has high amounts of sugar, then you’ll be eating more food than necessary and slowing down your metabolism even more.
That will totally defeat the purpose of going on the Optavia diet.
How do you know if a fueling substitute has too much sugar?
Just look for products that have no more than 8 grams of sugar per serving.
It’s important that you’re paying attention to what allergens are present in that product.
For example, if you’re allergic to nuts or soy, you’ll have to make sure that whichever replacement you choose doesn’t contain those allergens—the same goes for other allergens like gluten.
Does the Alternative Have Good Reviews?
You don’t have to believe everything you read on social media, but if there’s no evidence of anyone actually using this product in their meal plan and they haven’t had any results with it either way… well, that’s not going to help you out any!
Will It Make Me Feel Great?
While the idea of replacing a fueling with something that may not be as healthy might be tempting, keep in mind that your health should be your primary concern.
Even if you aren’t aiming to lose weight, healthy food choices will benefit you in many ways―you’ll have more energy throughout your day, sleep better at night, and feel good overall!
Do You Have Time to Prepare It?
If you’re looking for an optimal fueling snack but are also about to walk out the door for work, consider whether or not preparing your fueling substitute is feasible in the moment.
Sometimes it’s fine to just grab whatever meets your needs, but if that’s not possible or convenient, then you might need to look for other options.
Finally, remember that while substituting an Optavia bar or a Lean and Green meal may seem like an easy way out, nothing can replace the well-rounded nutrition of a well-planned Lean and Green recipe.
