My personal favorite is homemade chicken noodle soup!

I like chicken noodle soup. But I’m lazy, and sometimes I’m too lazy to make it from scratch, so I buy canned soup instead.

Unfortunately, the only canned chicken noodle soup that I’ve seen in stores is Campbell’s Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup (which, by the way, is not very homestyle-ish).

The problem with this canned soup is that it doesn’t taste very good. It’s a little bland and boring.

So I’ve experimented with various seasonings in an attempt to make this soup tasty and interesting.

Garlic powder seems to be the best seasoning for chicken noodle soup.

You might think that garlic powder would be a strange addition to chicken noodle soup, but it actually works quite well!

Basically, it boosts both the savory and umami flavors of this otherwise bland soup, making it much more satisfying to eat.

2. Thyme

Thyme

Thyme is a wonderful seasoning for chicken noodle soup. It makes the flavor richer and more complex, without being too assertive.

Of course, as with so many things, it depends on the circumstances. In some cases you’d want to use something else instead of thyme.

If you are making a Mexican soup with cilantro and lime, then cilantro and lime would be better seasonings than thyme.

And if you were making a Japanese noodle soup, you might want to use miso or ginger.

But if you’re making chicken noodle soup in the classic style, then thyme is better than these alternatives.

Chicken noodle soup is one of my favorite cold-weather foods, and I usually make a big pot of it every winter. One thing that I like to add in large quantities is bay leaf.

This annoys some people: most recipes say to use a tiny amount (or even omit it altogether), and some people believe that the flavor is more intense than I like.

But I think it’s great, and here’s why.

I used to add two or three leaves to a pot of soup, which was way too much. But then I started adding only one, which seemed just about right.

By now I know how to make a soup with exactly the flavor I want, and that flavor includes a distinct bay leaf flavor.
