It’s one of my favorite fish—it has a delicate, buttery flavor that pairs perfectly with so many different sides.

But sometimes it can be hard to know what to serve with Arctic Char, and even harder to come up with a menu that’s varied enough for everyone at the table.

I’ve done all the research for you! In this article, I’ll go over 11 easy side dishes that go perfectly with arctic char.

Arctic Char is a fatty fish, so it pairs well with potatoes and other carbohydrate-heavy foods.

Potatoes are a great side dish because they can absorb some of the oils from the fish while also providing your body with some fiber and carbohydrates.

You can also use mashed potatoes as a garnish for the fish or top it with a potato crust.

Root vegetables are another good choice for serving alongside Arctic Char.

This recipe is simple and tasty, and you won’t even have to dirty a skillet!

  1. First, preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Wash the potatoes and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Place them in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  4. Toss until all of the potatoes are evenly coated.
  5. Next, arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until tender when pierced with a fork (test one piece).
  7. Remove from oven and serve immediately.

2. Mashed Potatoes

Mashed potatoes are the perfect side dish for arctic char, and they’re incredibly easy to make.

Here’s how:

  1. In a large pot, combine 1/2 cup (100 g) butter and 1 cup (250 mL) half-and-half.
  2. Heat over medium heat until just simmering, then remove from the heat and add 2 lbs (900 g) russet potatoes, peeled and diced into 1-inch pieces.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then stir well until all the ingredients are incorporated.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl or food processor and mash until smooth, adding more half-and-half as needed for desired consistency (about 1/4 cup more).

3. Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Baking sweet potatoes in the oven is a great way to get that crispy, crunchy texture that you love from fried potatoes.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into thin strips or french-fry shapes. You can also leave them in long wedges if you want to keep them for a salad later—they’re delicious either way!
  3. Toss the sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper, until they’re well coated. Spread the fries out onto your baking sheet in a single layer (they don’t need to be crowded).
  4. Bake them for 20 minutes on one side, flip them over, rotate the pan, and bake another 15 minutes—that’s all it takes!

4. Green Bean Salad

This is another easy side dish that goes perfectly with arctic char.

  1. The first thing you want to do is get a large bowl and add your green beans. Make sure they’re chopped up into bite-sized pieces. If you don’t have a knife around, there’s a good chance your roommate does! Just ask for one.
  2. After that, you’ll need to slice up some onions and garlic cloves and throw them in the bowl as well.
  3. Next, chop up some parsley leaves and toss those on top of everything else.
  4. Add in a dash of salt and pepper (and maybe a little lemon juice if you have it) and mix everything together until it looks pretty much perfect!

This is a great dish to make ahead of time, or to take with you on the go.

It’s also perfect for those of us who want to eat healthy but don’t have much time to prepare a meal.

Here’s how you make it:

  1. Chop up a head of cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Slice up some red onion and mix it with the cabbage (you can use green onions if you prefer).
  3. Add some salt and pepper, plus some lemon juice, olive oil, and mayonnaise (or whichever dressing you prefer).
  4. Serve immediately!

It’s also easy to make and can be ready in just a few minutes.

Here’s how:

  1. Wash the spinach leaves and put them in a large bowl.
  2. Add a few tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil and salt to taste, then massage the leaves with your hands until they’re well coated. If you have time, let them sit for 20 minutes or so before serving.
  3. Once you’re ready to serve, toss in some chopped nuts (walnuts are my favorite), dried cranberries or raisins, and maybe some crumbled feta cheese if you like it!

7. Roasted Asparagus

This dish is easy, delicious, and the only thing you need is a little olive oil, salt and pepper.

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Cut off the woody ends of the asparagus stalks and discard them, then wash the asparagus thoroughly in cold water.
  2. Lay out a sheet of aluminum foil on your countertop and place the asparagus stalks vertically in a single layer on top of it (you may need two sheets of foil).
  3. Drizzle olive oil over the asparagus and sprinkle it with salt, then wrap up in the foil and place it in an oven set at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes or until tender but still firm to the bite!

It’s super simple to make, and it’s one of my favorite things to cook when I’m just not feeling up to making something complicated.

A lot of people are intimidated by cooking asparagus because they’re afraid it will get too soggy, but this method prevents that from happening.

Here’s how:

  1. Trim the ends of your asparagus spears, then cut them into thirds (you’ll have 12 pieces).
  2. Wrap each piece of asparagus in a strip of bacon and secure it with a toothpick.
  3. Heat up a pan over medium-high heat and add some olive oil or butter (or both!).
  4. When the pan is hot, add the bacon-wrapped asparagus and cook for about 5 minutes on each side until browned and crispy.
  5. Remove from the pan and serve!

9. Cilantro Lime Rice

What you’ll need:

Here’s how to make it:

  1.  Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with foil and coat it with cooking spray.
  3. Lay out the bacon slices in a single layer on the prepared pan. Bake for 15 minutes, or until crispy.
  4. Remove from the oven and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
  5. Set aside until ready to use.
  6. Toss the brussels sprouts with olive oil and salt in a large bowl until evenly coated; then spread them out on another baking sheet so they’re not crowded together (you may need two pans).
  7. Roast for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through cooking time if needed, until tender but not mushy when pierced with a fork (they’ll continue cooking after you take them out of the oven).
  8. Transfer to serving dish as soon as they come out of the oven so they don’t cool down too much before serving hot!
