I didn’t have beef broth, so I substituted a cup of canned beef consomme and it worked perfectly.

After cooking the bacon and sautéing the chicken in its fat, as instructed, I added one tablespoon of all-purpose flour to get a light roux going which thickened up nicely when combined with the cold water and consomme.

The thyme, salt, pepper, and paprika really made this gravy stand out from most others that I’ve tried!
