You know what’s delicious?
Avocado salad.
You know what’s even more delicious?
Avocado salad with a dressing that goes well with it.
Here are 17 dressings that go well with avocado salad:
1. Avocado-Cilantro Dressing
This one is simple and delicious—just blend together 1/2 cup avocado, 1/2 cup cilantro leaves (stems removed), 1 tablespoon lime juice, 1 teaspoon honey, and salt and pepper to taste.
It’s also great as a marinade for fish or chicken!
2. Blue Cheese Vinaigrette
In addition to being delicious on its own, blue cheese makes an awesome sauce for salads, grilled meat or fish.
Just mix together 2 ounces crumbled blue cheese (about 1/4 cup), 1 tablespoon lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar in a bowl until smooth.
3. Avocado Citrus Vinaigrette
The avocado citrus vinaigrette is a twist on the classic Italian dressing.
It’s actually one of my favorite dressings for salads!
To make it, blend together 2 avocados, 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon orange juice and zest from 1 orange, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar, 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup, and salt and pepper to taste.
You can also add 1/2 cup chopped fresh herbs (parsley or cilantro) to this recipe if desired.
4. Creamy Avocado Yogurt Dip
This is the perfect dip for taco night!
Just combine 1 ripe avocado, 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup salsa verde (or another green salsa), 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice, and salt to taste in a food processor or blender until smooth.
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
5. Lemon Herb Salad Dressing
This dressing is light and refreshing—perfect for summertime!
- Just combine 1/4 cup olive oil with the juice of a lemon and 1 teaspoon each dried basil, parsley flakes and oregano (or 1 tablespoon fresh).
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
You can also add some honey for sweetness if you want something sweet-and-sour instead of just sour!
6. Honey Mustard Dressing
Honey mustard dressing is one of those dressings that’s so versatile it can be used in almost any dish.
It’s great for dipping pretzels or veggies, but it’s also wonderful as a baste for chicken wings or pork chops before grilling them over medium heat for 20 minutes until cooked through.
7. Avocado Ranch Dressing
This dressing is creamy, delicious and super easy to make!
Just blend together 1/2 cup avocado with 1/2 cup buttermilk (or plain yogurt), 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or sour cream, 1 teaspoon dried dill weed (or fresh if you have it), 1 teaspoon onion powder and salt and pepper to taste.
8. Balsamic vinaigrette
I love balsamic vinaigrette because it’s just so easy to make and so versatile.
You can use it as a marinade for chicken or beef, as a dip for breadsticks, or drizzled over just about any salad you want to eat!
The best part about this dressing is that you can make it using ingredients you probably already have on hand!
Just combine 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar with 1/4 teaspoon minced garlic (or more if you like), 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil and salt and pepper to taste in a small bowl until smooth.
9. Raspberry vinaigrette
Add a little zing to your salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette.
Mix together 1/2 cup raspberries, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar, 2 teaspoons honey or agave syrup, and salt and pepper to taste in a blender until smooth.
You can also skip the blending and instead just mash up the berries with a fork.
The dressing will be slightly chunkier than if you blend it, but still delicious!
10. Sesame-ginger dressing
If you’re not a fan of using plain old mayo on your avocado salad, this dressing is for you.
It’s made with tahini, which is made from sesame seeds, and it has a rich, nutty flavor that will make your salad taste extra fancy.
All you have to do is mix together 2 tablespoons tahini paste, 2 tablespoons water, 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari (or coconut aminos if you’re vegan), 2 teaspoons honey or brown rice syrup if you want a sweeter dressing, 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil (or any other flavorless oil like canola), 1/4 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root and salt and pepper to taste in a bowl until smooth.
11. Creamy Italian Dressing
This is one of my favorite dressings to use with avocado salad.
It’s creamy, tangy and perfect for adding a little extra flavor to your meal!
To make the dressing, simply mix together 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or sour cream with 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a small bowl until smooth.
Add 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese (or any other kind of cheese that you like) and whisk until combined.
12. Tzatziki Sauce
If you like the flavor of Greek yogurt, you’ll love Tzatziki Sauce.
This creamy sauce is great with grilled meats and fish, as well as on salads.
Just mix together 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup minced onion, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill (or 1 tablespoon dried), 2 tablespoons lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste, 1 clove garlic minced, and 3 tablespoons olive oil in a bowl until smooth.
13. Thousand Island Dressing
This creamy dressing is a staple in most kitchens.
It pairs well with vegetables and is delicious on sandwiches, especially when you add bacon!
Just mix together 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish, 2 tablespoons chopped green olives (or 1 tablespoon dried), 2 teaspoons prepared mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce and salt and pepper to taste.
14. Salsa
Salsa is an easy way to add some zip to your avocado salad.
Chop up some tomatoes and onions and combine them with cilantro (fresh or dried), lime juice, salt and pepper to taste, 1 clove garlic minced, and 2 tablespoons olive oil in a bowl until smooth.
15. Aioli
Aioli is a great dressing that goes well with avocado salad.
It’s similar to mayonnaise, but it has the added flavor of garlic and lemon juice.
You can use a blender or food processor to make it, or you can just mix everything together in a bowl with a fork.
The ingredients are simple: 1 egg yolk, 2 tablespoons olive oil, juice from 1/2 lemon, 2 cloves garlic, salt and pepper to taste.
16. Soy-Ginger Dressing
If you love ginger and garlic but don’t want anything too heavy on your avocado salad, this dressing is perfect for you!
Just mix together 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari (or coconut aminos if you’re vegan), 1 teaspoon honey (or brown rice syrup if desired for sweetness), 2 cloves minced garlic and 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger root in a bowl until smooth.
17. Caesar Dressing
Caesar dressing is the perfect dip for your favorite veggies or a great topping for a salad!
