Trans man follows liberal bathroom rules perfectly but gets assaulted and arrested by police anyway

A 25-year-old trans man did exactly what progressive lawmakers told him to do – and still ended up in handcuffs.

What happened next at a South Carolina bar has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about bathroom policies gone wrong.

The Perfect Storm of Confusion

Luca Strobel arrived at the Sand Dollar Social Club in Folly Beach on May 16th as a designated driver for his friend’s birthday celebration.

He wasn’t drinking. He wasn’t causing trouble. He was simply trying to use the restroom.

But the men’s room presented an immediate problem – three urinals with no privacy dividers and no door lock. For someone who transitioned from female to male, this setup was unusable.

So Strobel did what many progressive advocates have long argued trans people should do – he used the bathroom matching his legal identification.

His government-issued ID shows an “F” gender marker. According to liberal bathroom policies, this should have been perfectly acceptable.

When Following the Rules Backfires

After reportedly getting permission from a female employee, Strobel entered the empty women’s restroom.

No women were present. He was simply trying to relieve himself in private.

But then a man claiming to be the bar owner burst into the women’s restroom and peered over the stall door.

“They’re looking over the top of the stall at me without my clothes on. They can fully see me naked other than me having my shirt on, and they just start screaming that there’s ‘a man’ in here.”

The irony was immediate and striking. Here was a trans man following exactly the bathroom rules that liberal lawmakers have promoted – using facilities matching his legal documentation.

The Situation Escalates Rapidly

What happened next reveals the complex reality behind bathroom policy debates that often get lost in political rhetoric.

The bar owner allegedly began pushing Strobel out while calling him derogatory names. A female employee reportedly joined in with transphobic slurs.

Despite following liberal bathroom guidelines to the letter, Strobel found himself being physically ejected from the establishment.

The owner then allegedly pushed him directly into the arms of a police officer waiting outside.

The Arrest That Defies Logic

Here’s where the story takes its most bewildering turn – and reveals the fundamental problems with current bathroom policies.

Police officers handcuffed both Strobel and his friend, charging them with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

Strobel maintains he was completely sober and hadn’t been fighting or causing any disturbance.

“I’m honestly in shock. My entire body hurts. I woke up the next day and couldn’t feel my fingers. I have bruises on my leg. I have a bruise on my arm.”

The officers allegedly tightened his handcuffs until he lost feeling in his fingers, repeatedly called him “little girl,” and kept shouting “Stop resisting” even though he was fully complying.

Both received $500 bonds, court dates, and orders to stay 500 feet away from the bar.

The Real Problem Nobody Talks About

This incident exposes the fundamental flaw in progressive bathroom policies that lawmakers rarely acknowledge.

Strobel followed liberal guidelines perfectly – he used the restroom matching his legal identification. Yet he still faced harassment, assault, and arrest.

The reality is that these policies often create more confusion and conflict than they resolve, putting transgender individuals in impossible situations regardless of which bathroom they choose.

South Carolina doesn’t even have restrictive bathroom laws for businesses, making this incident even more perplexing from a legal standpoint.

Strobel has now started a GoFundMe campaign to relocate to California, having raised over $5,000 toward his $15,000 goal. He says he no longer feels safe in South Carolina after this traumatic experience.

The case highlights how bathroom policies promoted by well-meaning advocates can sometimes create the very problems they’re designed to solve – leaving everyone confused about what’s actually legal and appropriate.
