Trader Joe’s Worst Frozen Meal Isn’t What You’d Guess (Spoiler: It’s a Fan Favorite)

Trader Joe’s has a treasure trove of frozen meals, but not all are culinary masterpieces. While fans might expect notorious flops like the Cauliflower Gnocchi to top the “worst” list, a surprising contender has emerged.

The Unexpected Disappointment

The Riced Cauliflower Bowl takes the crown for the most underwhelming frozen meal. In a shocking twist, more than 22% of shoppers voted this seemingly healthy option as the absolute worst Trader Joe’s frozen food.

What makes this bowl so unappetizing?

Despite its seemingly nutritious ingredients – cauliflower rice, marinated chickpeas, sweet potatoes, baked tofu, roasted onions, and tahini sauce – the flavor profile falls flat. Shoppers described it as having a perplexing and unpleasant taste, with many noting a distinctly “sour” undertone.

Other Frozen Failures Worth Avoiding

While the Riced Cauliflower Bowl might be the top offender, Trader Joe’s has several other frozen meals that miss the mark:

  • Cacio e Pepe Ravioli: Watery and bland, with sauce that runs off the noodles
  • Spaghetti Carbonara: Described as “literally tasteless”
  • Vegetable Pad Thai: High in sodium but lacking flavor, with an excessive amount of bean sprouts
  • Honey Walnut Shrimp: Criticized for an “atrocious” sauce
  • Philly Cheesesteak Bao Buns: So bad that one reviewer advised: “Friends don’t let friends eat bad bao”

A Glimmer of Hope

Not all is lost in the Trader Joe’s frozen aisle. In fact, the Butter Chicken with Basmati RiceHashbrowns, and Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches were recently crowned fan favorites in the 16th Annual Customer Choice Awards. So while some frozen meals might disappoint, others continue to delight hungry shoppers looking for a quick and tasty meal.
