  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder

For the toffee sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp molasses
