Perfectly Baked Sweet Potatoes with Cinnamon Sugar Butter

Hello friends! Today, I’m excited to share how to perfectly bake whole sweet potatoes. These sweet potatoes are an ideal holiday side dish, creamy on the inside and flavored with cinnamon sugar and butter.

Ingredients
- 3 large sweet potatoes
- 1 and 1/2 Tbs olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
- 2 Tbs sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 3 Tbs butter, plus a little more for topping
Instructions Below (with photos)
We will be using three large sweet potatoes for this recipe. Let’s get started!

First, take a fork and poke holes in each sweet potato. This step is crucial as it allows steam to escape during baking, preventing them from bursting in the oven.

Next, drizzle about a tablespoon and a half of olive oil over the potatoes. Then, season them with salt and black pepper to taste. Make sure to smear the oil, salt, and pepper evenly around each potato.

Ensure your oven is preheated to 375°F. I prefer to bake sweet potatoes at a lower temperature because the slower they bake, the sweeter they become. We will bake them for about an hour.

Halfway through baking, flip the potatoes to ensure they cook evenly on all sides.

While the sweet potatoes are baking, mix together 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. This mixture will be the cinnamon topping for the sweet potatoes, so set it aside for later.

When the sweet potatoes come out of the oven, check if they’re soft to the touch. If they are, they’re fully baked. If not, stick them back in the oven for another 5 to 10 minutes.

Now, make a slit along each potato. Holding each potato from both ends, give them a little squeeze to open up the slits.

Next, place a tablespoon of butter into each potato. You can adjust the amount of butter based on your preference.

Using a fork, fluff each sweet potato and mix in the butter as it melts.

Once every sweet potato is fluffed and mixed with butter, add a spoonful of the cinnamon sugar mixture and mix that in as well.

Finally, top each potato with a little more butter and a sprinkle of the remaining cinnamon sugar.

This baked sweet potato recipe comes out so good! The potatoes are incredibly creamy on the inside, and the cinnamon sugar butter complements them perfectly.

And since we oiled the skin and seasoned it with salt and pepper before roasting, the skin is also delicious to chew on!

Enjoy!
