Elon Musk threatens to form new political party after Trump says tech CEO has totally lost it
The world’s richest man just threatened to blow up American politics forever. And it all started with a budget bill.

From Allies to Enemies in Record Time
Just months ago, Elon Musk was jumping on stage at Trump rallies, pumping his fist and declaring the former president a hero who took a bullet for democracy.
The Tesla CEO had poured $300 million of his own money into getting Trump elected. He spent election night at Mar-a-Lago. He was practically living at the White House during the transition.
Trump rewarded his biggest supporter by putting him in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency, tasked with cutting $2 trillion from the federal budget.

For months, they were inseparable. UFC fights together. Cabinet meetings where Musk dominated the conversation. Even a viral moment where Musk’s toddler son “Little X” stole the show in the Oval Office.
The Cracks Begin to Show
But behind the scenes, tensions were building. Musk’s DOGE team was making enemies fast with their aggressive spending cuts.
Protests erupted at Tesla dealerships across the country. The company’s stock tanked. Democrats labeled the demonstrations “domestic terrorism.”

Trump tried to show support, even staging a photo-op where he “bought” a Tesla in front of the White House. But privately, aides say he was growing tired of Musk’s constant presence and unsolicited advice.
The first public crack came in late May when Musk criticized Trump’s “big beautiful bill” making its way through Congress.
“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said.
The Point of No Return
Two days later, Musk announced he was leaving DOGE. His 130-day term as a Special Government Employee was up anyway, but the timing sent a clear message.

On June 3rd, Musk went nuclear on X, calling the budget reconciliation bill “a disgusting abomination.” He urged his 200 million followers to pressure Republicans to vote against it.
“KILL THE BILL,” he posted the next day.
That’s when Trump finally snapped.
The Gloves Come Off
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump didn’t hold back.
“I was very disappointed by Elon’s vocal criticisms of the bill. He knew what was in it and had no problem until the EV incentives had to be cut.”

Musk fired back on X, calling Trump’s assessment “false.”
Then Trump took to Truth Social with a devastating response that shocked even his closest allies.
“Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted, and he just went CRAZY!”
But Musk wasn’t done. In a series of increasingly unhinged posts, he accused Trump of “ingratitude” and claimed the president wouldn’t have won without his help.
He even suggested Trump should be impeached and replaced by Vice President Vance.
The Nuclear Option
Then came the bombshell that has Washington insiders panicking.

In a late-night post that sent shockwaves through both parties, Musk announced he was “seriously considering” forming a new political party to challenge what he called the “broken two-party system.”
The threat isn’t empty. With his $400 billion fortune and 200 million social media followers, Musk has the resources to fund a third-party movement that could reshape American politics forever.
Republican strategists are already war-gaming scenarios where a Musk-backed party splits the conservative vote, potentially handing Democrats victories they never could have achieved otherwise.
Trump’s response on Friday was characteristically blunt: “Elon’s totally lost it. I’m not worried about his little party. We have the support, we have the polls.”
But behind closed doors, sources say Trump’s team is scrambling to contain the damage from a feud that could define the next four years of American politics.
