Anti-Trump WNBA player DiJonai Carrington accuses refs of microaggression after security called during outburst
A heated courtside confrontation has sparked fresh controversy around one of the WNBA’s most polarizing figures.
DiJonai Carrington is once again making headlines, but this time it’s not just about basketball.

The Incident That Started It All
During Thursday’s game between the Dallas Wings and Chicago Sky, tensions reached a boiling point when Carrington engaged in what she described as a “civil conversation” with game officials.
The exchange quickly escalated, prompting referees to take an unusual step that would later ignite social media backlash.
Video footage shows the moment security guards approached the court as Carrington became increasingly animated during her discussion with the officials.

A Pattern of Controversy
This latest incident adds to Carrington’s growing reputation as one of the league’s most controversial players.
Last season, while playing for the Connecticut Sun, Carrington made headlines for an incident involving Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.
During a playoff game, Carrington poked Clark in the eye, giving the rising star a black eye. The incident became even more controversial when Carrington was seen laughing with teammate Marina Mabrey afterward.

While Carrington denied intentionally harming Clark, she later appeared to make light of the situation in an Instagram Live video with her girlfriend NaLyssa Smith, who ironically plays alongside Clark on the Indiana Fever.
Political Activism Takes Center Stage
Carrington’s controversial nature extends far beyond the basketball court and into the political arena.
During the “Unrivaled” league season in January, she made a bold political statement by wearing a shirt emblazoned with “The F— Donald Trump Tour” while entering Miami’s Wayfair Arena.

Her political activism didn’t stop there. At a press conference that same month, Carrington called for WNBA players to “take action” against President Trump’s policies.
“We see that some of the policies are already going into action, and, of course, that means that as the WNBA and being at the forefront of a lot of these movements, it’s time for us to also take action,” Carrington declared.
Support From Former Players
Carrington isn’t fighting this battle alone. Former Dallas Wings player and basketball legend Cheryl Swoopes came to her defense on social media.

“If this man was scared (of what, I don’t know) and needed security, he should NEVER be able to ref again! This can’t be real!” Swoopes wrote on X.
The support from established figures in women’s basketball highlights the divisive nature of the incident.
The Microaggression Accusation
Here’s where the story takes its most controversial turn. In her social media response to the security incident, Carrington didn’t just express frustration – she made a serious accusation.

Carrington took to X (formerly Twitter) to share video footage of the incident, claiming that calling security during what she characterized as a “civil conversation” constituted a “microaggression.”
“Security… when I’m literally having a civil conversation is insane. Mind you, he called the ‘sEcUrItY’ over there…” she wrote, adding a misspelled “microaggression” hashtag to her post.
The accusation suggests racial undertones to the referee’s decision, adding another layer of complexity to an already heated situation.
League Response Pending
As of now, neither the WNBA nor the Chicago Sky have responded to requests for comment about the incident.
The controversy continues to generate discussion across social media platforms, with fans and critics weighing in on both sides of the debate.
Whether this latest incident will result in any disciplinary action or policy changes remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – DiJonai Carrington continues to be one of the most talked-about players in women’s professional basketball, both for her on-court performance and off-court controversies.
